Rubber-metal Coating

Products such as rollers, seals or vibration-damping parts on which a rubber coating is to be applied to metal must first be provided with a so-called rubber-metal binder. This serves as an adhesive base for the rubber to be applied and is therefore also referred to as a "bonding agent". Coating with the rubber-metal binder takes place before the vulcanisation process. The process consists of two coating processes in which primer and adhesion agent are applied one after the other. For water-based materials, the parts are also often heated before coating.

For coating with rubber-metal binders Sprimag offers suitable coating systems depending on the quantity requirements. The compact round table coating machine is ideally suited for the application of adhesion agents in small quantities, while the high-speed chain machine also masters high coating capacities with rubber-to-metal binders. Some of the binders used for rubber coating metal are Chemosil, Chemlok® or MegumTM.

Measurement Procedures for Quality Assurance in Rubber-Metal Coating

For a particularly precise result with the rubber coating on metal, different measuring methods may be used and thus make a significant contribution to quality assurance. Depending on the individual requirements, it may be useful, for example, to undertake coating checks, to perform coating thickness measurements, to document various process parameters or even to implement coating temperature controls of the rubber-metal binder.
